At Africology, rooibos is one of our most precious ingredients. Sourced locally and sustainably, we work closely with farmers to ensure that our rooibos is free from pesticides and chemicals before and after harvesting.
After all, we love rooibos for all its healing and rejuvenating properties, and we use only the best rooibos the world has to offer.
The benefits of Rooibos
Native to South Africa, this fine-leaved tea has been enjoyed for centuries in Southern Africa, and has been refined over time. It is caffeine-free, making it ideal for daily consumption without affecting sleep patterns, while low tannin levels reduce the chances of teeth staining.
It contains high levels of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), essential to boosting the immune system against infection.
It contains antioxidants such as flavanols, flavones, flavanones, dihydrochalcones, aspalathin and nothofagin. Antioxidants are essential in fighting and destroying free radical cells in the body, as free radicals cause oxidative stress and cell damage. A build-up of free radicals can lead to the development of cancer, so it is essential to prevent their proliferation.
The anti-inflammatory properties of rooibos tea assist greatly in treating excess inflammation, which can also lead to cancer. By helping to maintain a healthy digestive system, some cancers can be prevented.
And, of course, these anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and soothing properties are vital in the treatment of skin, slowing the signs of aging and maintaining the health of skin for longer.
